Long Island Bike Challenge

Mission Statement

2020

BIKES BATTLE COVID-19!

Every year The Long Island Bike Challenge (LIBC) conducts an annual charity bike ride that inspires dedicated cyclists to ride across Long Island with the goal being to raise funds to prevent and cure cancer, raising and gifting over $285,000. But this year is different; as you know we are all in this together... COVID-19 is the greatest challenge to public health in 100 years. Therefore, for 2020 the LIBC is directing rider raised donations to support Feinstein Institute/ Northwell Health System researchers and healthcare workers on the front lines battling the pandemic.

Who we are

The LIBC is comprised of a dedicated group of committed cyclists willing to endure both physical and psychological challenges of training for and completing a bike ride across Long Island, as well as, securing donations from their individual supporters. Additionally, the LIBC combines support from dedicated volunteers, corporate sponsors and individual contributors. All are essential to the LIBC goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. Our hope and aspiration this year is to provide Northwell Health System physicians and researchers with the necessary resources to discover treatments, cures and a vaccine to defeat the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Long Island Bike Challenge is a registered 501c3 - an approved public charity as determined by the Internal Revenue Service.  For additional information please contact Founder and Director Edward Diller directly at 516-606-4272, or Edward@lichallenge.org.   Donations can be made online at https://www.lichallenge.org/ or by check to Long Island Bike Challenge, and mailed to 1366 Odell Street, Wantagh, NY 11793.

The 2020 Event

For the 2020 LIBC will hold a modified event on Sunday, August 2nd. Bike riders will be asked to ride alone together respecting social distancing requirements. Ride support, including bike maintenance, water stops, and transportation back to start points will be limited this year. The current plan is to start the event in Wantagh (as well as Brentwood and Medford) and finish in Westhampton. However in all likelihood (due to health issues) there will not be a celebratory lunch at the finish. All riders should plan to have someone meet them at the end. Riders may also choose any date and ride any distance - "around the block" on their own. The goal being to deliver a substantial donation to Northwell Health/Feinstein Institute this year!
